We are very excited to announce that the Oneonta City board has officially approved our proposal to found a Breast Cancer Memorial Lily Garden downtown in Wilber Park!

The plan for the garden is to plant pink lily bulbs in the shape of a traditional ribbon symbol and put up a plaque for survivors and victims of Breast Cancer. We hope to start out small, but each year have the garden grow, adding flowers and also some seating, a fountain, and other decorations. After we plant the lily bulbs, we will have a 'ribbon' ceremony with guest speakers, performances from campus groups, and a candle vigil.

The hope is that this garden will be a place of love and support for those who have been affected by breast cancer. We also have plans to hold our annual Pink Illumination Ceremony at the garden starting this October.

Pi Delta Chi is currently asking for donations for this to happen. We are symbolically selling pink lily bulbs to be planted in honor or in memory of someone affected by breast cancer. We are asking $5 (or more if you care to be so generous) for each bulb, with the option of including one name on the memorial/honorary plaque. Donations of $100 or more will warrant a special "with special thanks" to the group or individual. For example, your whole organization could go in on a group donation. All donors will have the option of being informed of special events via email or phone related to the garden, such as the ribbon ceremony and future Pink Illumination Ceremonies.

All net profits after initial costs will be donated to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, a national foundation dedicated to education and research about causes, treatment, and the search for a cure for breast cancer.

Please consider making a donation or having a lily planted in honor or memory of a loved one. If you are interested in making a donation or have any further questions, please contact either of Pi Delta Chi's Community Service Chairpersons:
Lauren Crandall: cranle25@suny.oneonta.edu (518) 424-1348
Laura Van Houten: vanhlf69@suny.oneonta.edu (845) 728-6402

Note: if you are sending a check, please have the check made out to "Pi Delta Chi Sorority" for "Breast Cancer Garden." Also please contact Lauren Crandall (cranle25@suny.oneonta.edu (518) 424-1348) if you need the address. Thank you!

Peace, Love, and Pi Delta Chi
